Samply alternatives: six tools for client review
Who each tool suits, with the review experience, prices and payment options side by side.
This comparison is published by Soneam. People leave Samply for a few different reasons: cheaper storage, a payment step before files are released, or a clearer sign-off from the client. Consider Highnote if lossless playback and low-cost storage matter most; it also plays albums gaplessly, one of Samply’s strengths. Audome suits a studio that wants its projects and client pages in one branded workspace. Filepass is built around getting paid before files download. Notetracks sends comments into a DAW and reviews video on the same timeline, and EngineEars is a booking marketplace with escrow, for finding new clients.

* Soneam Free: 5 GB, up to 1 GB of your own uploads a month, unlimited projects, 3 versions per track. Payment before download: on every plan you confirm a payment received elsewhere; on Pro and above the client can also pay by card through your own Stripe. No Soneam fee; Stripe charges its own on card payments. “Not found” means not found on the pages checked.
Prices in US dollars; “yearly” means billed yearly. Notetracks Starter is $9 a month on monthly billing. Highnote does not list a yearly price. Every fact about another product comes from its own pages: Samply sharing, apps and payments; Highnote pricing, workflow and apps; Audome pricing; Filepass pricing; Notetracks pricing; EngineEars for all and for engineers. Not finding something on those pages does not prove the product lacks it. We have not run the same review through every product; the month at the top is when the oldest of these facts was checked.
Highnote
Highnote streams full-quality audio in the browser, and anyone can listen without an account. Notes go at a moment in the track as text, stickers or a voice note, and versions nest under one track for quick comparison. It plays albums gaplessly, which makes it the closest match here for people who chose Samply for that. Storage is the cheapest on this page: 50 GB free, 1 TB for $4.99 a month and 5 TB for $19.99, with iOS and Android apps. We did not find a payment step before downloads or a record of which version was approved.
Consider it if most of your reviews are listening and notes, and storage cost matters more than the business side.
Audome
Audome is an all-in-one collaboration and project workspace. Clients listen losslessly up to 96 kHz / 24-bit without an account, comments become a to-do list and versions are organized for you. The client page can carry your logo, a cover image and photos. There is no free plan; the 10-day trial needs no card. Its paywall and invoicing sit on the Pro plan, which is marked coming soon.
Consider it if you want the studio’s projects and client pages in one place, with your studio’s branding. Soneam vs Audome
Filepass
Filepass is built around getting paid. The client pays the remaining balance in the app and the download unlocks, on both paid plans. Files stream without re-encoding, comments are time-stamped, and revisions become a checklist. There is no free plan; the 14-day trial needs no card, and the lower plan caps uploads at 10 GB a month.
Consider it if collecting payment at delivery is the problem you are solving, and you do not need a streaming loudness preview or a separate approval record. Soneam vs Filepass
Notetracks
Notetracks centres on the comment workflow. It exports comments to Pro Tools, Audition, Audacity and Hindenburg, and its Team plan reviews video on the same timeline. Pricing is per user, with small storage allowances (2 GB on Pro). Invited collaborators join for free, though an invitation can route a client to registration.
Consider it if your notes need to land in a DAW session, or picture and sound are reviewed together. Soneam vs Notetracks
EngineEars
EngineEars is a marketplace and business platform. You get a public, bookable profile with scheduling, a CRM and intake forms, and it describes holding the client’s fee in escrow from booking until approval. The free tier takes 15% of earnings; Platinum is $15 a month billed yearly with a 0% platform fee. Stripe processing fees apply on both. The client side is an artist account with a wallet.
Consider it if you want new clients to find and book you, not only a better way to work with the ones you have. Soneam vs EngineEars
Soneam
We make Soneam, for engineers who deliver finished mixes and masters to clients they already have, so read this entry with that in mind.
The client compares. They open one link without an account and play lossless FLAC, switch between versions at matched loudness, and can hear the master at each streaming platform’s loudness before signing off.
The client approves. They approve a specific version, and Soneam keeps that version, the name they enter and the time as a record you can print.
You deliver. You release the original files on the same link, each with a SHA-256 checksum. Downloads can stay locked until payment: on every plan you confirm a payment you received elsewhere, and on Pro and above the client can pay by card through your own Stripe account. Soneam takes no fee; Stripe charges its own on card payments.
What it does not do. There is no native app or gapless album playback, and it does not review video. Soneam vs Samply
What Samply still does better
Samply has a native iPhone app, gapless playback across an album and a spatial audio preview on a paid tier, and it supports payment-controlled downloads too. If you rely on those features, staying is a reasonable choice.
Free: up to 3 versions per track. Pro and above: unlimited versions within your storage allowance. Existing versions, comments, approvals and deliveries remain available. The limit applies when adding a version, including on existing projects.
Frequently asked questions
Do my clients need a new account?
Not in Soneam, Highnote or Audome, and Samply listeners on a public project do not need one either. EngineEars gives the client an artist account, and a Notetracks invitation can route a client to registration.
Can I move my old comments and versions from Samply?
Existing Samply links and comments stay in Samply. What moves is the audio. In Soneam you upload the masters you need, or send them to us and we set up the first project with you.
Can I keep using Samply and try another tool on one project?
Yes. Send the next job from the new tool and leave the rest where it is. Agree with the client where the next review happens, so their feedback does not end up in two places.
Is there a free Samply alternative?
Highnote has a free Starter plan with 15 tracks and 50 GB. Soneam has a free plan with 5 GB and up to 1 GB of your own uploads a month, unlimited projects and 3 versions per track. EngineEars has a free tier that takes a 15% fee on earnings. Audome and Filepass offer trials, and Notetracks offers a trial; whether it has an ongoing free plan is unclear from its pricing page.
Which Samply alternatives let a client pay before downloading?
Filepass unlocks downloads when the client pays in the app, on both paid plans. In Soneam, downloads can stay locked on every plan until you confirm a payment received elsewhere, and on Pro and above the client can pay by card through your own Stripe account, with no Soneam fee. EngineEars describes holding the fee in escrow from booking until approval. Samply also supports payment-controlled downloads.
What can Soneam not do?
Soneam has no native app and no gapless album playback, and it does not review video. It is not a marketplace either: it works with clients you already have.
