How Soneam works
Short answers to the things people ask, mostly before they sign up rather than after. If the one you need is not here, write to support and a person will answer.
Sharing and review
- Do my clients need an account? No. They open a link, play the audio, leave notes and approve, without signing up for anything.
- How do I share a version for review? Two kinds of link: one that always shows your latest version, and one pinned to the version you want signed off.
- How do I password-protect a link? Set a password when you create a review or delivery link. People who got the link by email do not have to type it.
- How do I revoke a link I already sent? Revoking is immediate and the link stays in your list, so you can say when it stopped working.
- What happens to comments when I upload a new version? Unresolved notes move to the new version at the same timestamp. Resolved ones stay behind as the record.
- Can I put my own logo on the pages clients see? Yes, your logo and accent colour, on every plan. A custom domain is not supported.
Approval and delivery
- What does an approval actually record? The name they typed, the time, their IP address and exactly which version. You can print it.
- Can I hold a delivery until the invoice is paid? Yes. Put an amount on the delivery and the files stay locked. Soneam takes no percentage of it.
- Which countries and currencies can I charge in? Card payments need a Stripe account in a country Stripe supports. Deliveries can be priced in USD, EUR, GBP or JPY.
- What if someone approves twice, or two people approve? One approval per link per version. A second person on the same link changes nothing, so give them their own link.
- Someone approved by mistake. Can it be undone? No. An approval is a record of what happened, so it stays. Upload the next version and get that one signed off.
- How do I connect Stripe so clients can pay by card? Connect once on the billing page. Payments go to your account, and Soneam takes 0% of them.
Files and storage
- Which files can I upload? WAV, FLAC, AIFF, MP3, AAC and M4A, up to 600 MB a file. Clients can send ZIPs and DAW sessions, up to 2 GB.
- How is storage counted? Only what you and your clients upload. Everything Soneam makes from it is free.
- What happens to my files if I cancel? Nothing is deleted. You drop to the free plan, links keep working, and files above 10 GB are kept for at least 12 months.
What your client hears
- What does Fair Loudness do? It plays two versions at a matched level, so the louder one does not win the comparison on volume alone.
- What is the streaming loudness preview? It plays your master at the level each platform will play it, so the turn-down is something the client hears.
- Can my client hear what the codec does? Yes, on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. Off by default, because which encode someone gets depends on their plan.
- Is playback really lossless? Yes for 16- and 24-bit masters, exactly. 32-bit float is quantised to 24-bit. Delivery carries a SHA-256 checksum either way.
