Playback and audio quality

Can I play an album without gaps between tracks?

Gapless playback is available on review links and project pages. The next track must be ready in time; tracks with different sample rates may have a gap.

Yes. Review links and project pages support gapless playback, letting you check the transitions in a live album or continuous mix.

Playing an album

Play any track to listen from that point onward. The following tracks play in order, and playback stops at the end of the album. With Loop or range looping on, the current track or selected range repeats instead.

If consecutive tracks share a sample rate and the next track is ready, they join without an added gap or crossfade. Silence in the files is left intact.

If playback pauses between tracks

A slow connection, unfinished audio processing, or seeking near the end of a track can leave too little time to prepare the next one. Playback waits for it to be ready, then starts it from the beginning.

With codec previews enabled, the next track’s preview is generated during playback. This can take longer the first time, especially at high sample rates. An unfinished preview will also delay the next track.

Different sample rates

Each track plays at its own sample rate. When the rates differ, Soneam aligns the end of one track with the start of the next, but cannot guarantee a sample-accurate transition. A small gap or overlap is possible, depending on the browser and device.

Your device or audio interface may convert the sample rate at the output, regardless of the rate used for playback in Soneam.

Streaming loudness previews

The selected preview sets how gain is calculated during album playback:

  • Spotify and Apple Music: one gain adjustment for all tracks, based on the album’s overall loudness.
  • Tidal: one gain adjustment for all tracks, based on the album’s loudest track.
  • Amazon Music, Deezer and YouTube: a separate adjustment for each track.

A common gain preserves the loudness differences between tracks. Separate adjustments can change those differences.

The album calculation covers the versions included in its loudness measurement. Other versions selected for comparison use their own measurements. After an album is changed, adjustments are calculated per track until the album has been measured again.

These are approximations of streaming loudness behavior, not exact reproductions of playback on each service.

Fair Loudness

Fair Loudness matches levels for comparing versions of the same track. As the album advances automatically, its gain adjustment carries over to subsequent tracks, preserving their relative levels rather than matching each track separately.

Choosing a track or version, or turning Fair Loudness off and on, resets that adjustment.
